If only I kept my magic trackpad, I would have really wanted to buy this. Love it. $74 for the keyboard+trackpad combo.

We Used to Wait.

As a “Google Chrome Experiment”, the Wilderness Downtown provides a customizable music video to Arcade Fire’s “We Used to Wait”. The Suburbs is a fantastic CD with “We Used to Wait”" as one of many standout tracks. Not for the weak computers, the site comes with a warning as very processor intensive. Check it out — well worth the 4+ minutes.

Amazing. Love the Bon Iver inclusion. Kanye knows his music. Never was a big fan of Nicki Minaj though.

Kobe’s Greatest

via Nice Kicks.

In celebration of the great one’s 32nd, Nice Kicks compiled a list of Kobe’s 32 greatest shoes. Needless to say, I’m a little bit of a Kobe fan and, in turn, a fanatic of his footwear. Hate to act as the spoiler, but I have to disagree with the number one choice, the Carpe Diem Zoom IVs. It’s a great shoe, but number one?! Personal favorite ten, in order of release date, includes:

addias Equipment Elevation - Slam Dunk Contest - As the worlds introduction to LA's newest superstar, Kobe flashed these purple adidas shoes and started to turn millions into believers.

adidas KB8 - Kobe's first signature shoe was a fantastic shoe with great Feet You Wear technology.

adidas KB8 II - My first personal pair of Kobes obviously holds a special place in my heart. The start of a shoe fascination indeed.

adidas The Kobe Playoff Mesh - Introduced specifically for the 00-01 playoffs, this mesh colorway topped off a spectacular shoe with multiple standout colorways including the ASG sunshine edition.

Jordan III - Kobe PE - In 2002-2003, adidas released Kobe from his contract leading to essentially his shoe free agency. Amongst the shoes worn were these Jordan IIIs, Jordan VIIs, and Reebok Questions. The Questions would have definitely made this list if I could find a picture.

Nike Huarache 2k4 - After signing with Nike, his first two shoes would not bear his name. The 2k4 was a fantastic performing shoe and the laser print technology was being (expensively) rolled out slowly, starting with these 2k4s.

Nike Kobe Zoom II Strength - Orca - The Zoom I was pretty plain in appearance, but terrific in performance. The Zoom IIs did not disappoint in either spectrum. With three different models - regular, light and strength, This Orca Strength model was amongst the best.

Nike Kobe Zoom III - All Star Edition - Combining the newest advanced technology with Kobe's desire to have the lightest shoe possible, the Zoom III was one of the lightest shoes on the market at release.

Nike Hyperdunk - McFly - An obvious shoutout to the BTTF kicks, this is one of the best colorways of all time. 2015 on the tongue, and grey colorway combined with the most innovative Nikes in a long time. The hyperdunk revitalized a struggling basketball shoe industry with the superb Flywire technology . While not true Kobe signatures, Kobe DID show up to the release event at UNDFTD in a DeLorean.

Nike Kobe Zoom IV - Carpe Diem - Several players including Steve Nash and Gilbert Arenas rocked the low top previous to Kobe, but universal acceptance wasn't assured until Kobe brought these shoes out. The industry has not been the same since.

Nike Kobe Zoom V - Dark Knight - Given the difficult task of improving the Zoom IVs, the Zoom Vs came out with a bang with this colorway. Personally, the Vs are the best performance sneaker I've ever worn. The Dark Knight colorway is a perfect execution on an amazing concept.

Fine, I couldn’t resist and added eleven of my favorite pairs instead. And better yet, Nice Kicks provides a bonus peek at next years Kobe Zoom VIs. Not sure what’s going on with the snake skin pattern, but I’ll wait for a better image before judgement. Initial impression says it doesn’t look too much different than the V.

MCFLY, YOU BOJO!

August 25, 2010

We’re only 5 years away from reaching 2015 aka the hover boards and flying cars of the classic Back to the Future part II. With the date rapidly approaching, legendary Tinker Hatfield and the squad at Nike just filed a patent with striking similarity to the elusive Marty McFly’s. If you recall, the shoes had its own powered laces and lighted Nike logo. Here’s the abstract of the recently uncovered patent via Nice Kicks.

An article of footwear with an automatic lacing system is disclosed. The automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper. The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper.

And a brief summary of how they plan to make it possible.

The invention discloses an article of footwear including an automatic lacing system. In one aspect, the invention provides an automatic lacing system for an article of footwear, comprising: a sole including a cavity; a motor disposed in the cavity; the motor including a driveshaft; the driveshaft including at least one gear; at least one belt engaged with the at least one gear at an intermediate portion of the belt; a yoke member connected to the at least one belt at an attachment portion of the at least one belt; a plurality of straps attached to the yoke member, the plurality of straps being configured to adjust an upper of the article of footwear; and where the straps can be automatically moved between a closed position and a loosened position by activating the motor

2015 just can’t come any sooner! Count me in for a pair, at least. BTTF holds a special place in my heart. You Bojo, Tinker, you’ve captured me again. Now, Mattel just needs to file a patent for the hoverboard to live out my dreams.
